Odysseus
Seeing with eyes that are not real
Listening with ears that are not real
Fighting with weapons that are not real
The ether summons you tonight
calling you in the arena to fight
the caged beasts that reason death
mutant snakes jeopardize the balance.
Mystified by the view of waterfalls
my blood is mixed with salt
a new flower spider webs its way up
the pressure and the responsibilities
of a long lost youth time, racing in time.
Do you feel old enough to challenge me?
The smoke of the burnt cigarette
creates a fog that consumes ideals
a war-cry echoing through the centuries
a number, three hundred, fought for you
they fell to the last when they could've won
a Persian threat, a lion king dies
and civilization endures the destruction
"Oh stranger, go and tell the Spartans
that we lay here dead saluting to the centuries
faithful to our promise and our laws
of glory and sacrifice for freedom"
Come now, this is the altered reality
no reasons and no laws in immortality
no life and death, here, this moment
is recurring time and time again
till god dies and the ice caps melt
till the sun burns out and
till the moon falls from the sky.
And the Siren is still there
on the rocks, of the island
beckoning, offering a solution
"Come now stranger, come
lay down, on this beach
there is no reason to fight
no prey to hunt upon
no god to believe in
come now stranger, come"
He picked up his sword
sealed his ears with wax
and sailed away
whispering in pain
"I need to get to Ithaca
I need to get to Ithaca
I have to get to Ithaca
nothing will stop me now"
The tragic story of Odysseus
reflecting on my life,
an endless journey
trying desperately to be free
from the gods' curse
that befell on me for my arrogance
trying to find the way home
fighting with the waves of madness
My son grows old and has a beard now
my wife is under siege by suitors
and I am sealed in the isle of Calypso
Oh Hermes order the witch of rage
to set me free...
I need to get to Ithaca
I need to get back home
just once, before my eyes
are sealed with sand...
